Hide and Seek

This song gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Some robot rock for the ladies. A beautiful tune from Imogen Heap that deserves a listen. Enjoy.

HeadHoods " Coming to a hood near you! "

"HeadHoods" is an idea that started
from a good coffee buzz and just kept going...

HeadHoods are currently being produced in a very small bustling factory located in Brooklyn, New York. Each and every HeadHood is meticulously hand-printed and one-of-a-kind and so HeadHoods are sought out as something truly unique. We currently print on American Apparel hooded sweatshirts due to the quality of their fabric, their fit, and also A.A.’s excellent business practices. Check back frequently and see the latest styles! Yes, we do custom hoodies, but it ain’t cheap...

Samim is all over the place

Every now and then a track comes up from nowhere, or almost, and everyone agrees on it. That description fits perfectly Samim's " Heater ". Minimal yet funky, the track's biggest and daring originality is its accordion hook leading to, like its title suggests, raise the heat.

Initially signed on the always quality-delivering Get Physical label, it got played by almost all the electro DJs. From Richie Hawtin to Claude von Stroke, Pete Tong and Eric Morillo, the tune turned massive in Ibiza and will be re-released soon by Ministry Of Sound.
Now that doesn't sound too good since MOS is always prompt in destroying a track's soul by putting a vocal over it and leave it to dozen of remixers.

The unexpected success pushed the band and label to shoot a video that will take the director to 9 cities around the world, in no more than 14 days.
The crew will be in Bangkok on September 28th for a day of shooting. We will try to hook up with them and see how's their project going on.

If you want to listen to the track on a proper soundsystem, get down to Club Culture tomorrow for Wrong Disco, where the track has been championed by DJ K-Jet for the past few months.

See here how Richie Hawtin plays the accordion :

Kanye gets So-Me's treatment

Music medias have been mentioning the release of Kanye West and 50 Cent new albums, coincidentally this month, as the ultimate showdown. Each artist doing his best to outshine the other.
While we will not buy into this lame media topic ( Kanye is of course the only winner ), the latest video from Kanye West is worth a blog post.
Bearing an air of deja-vu with the smart and funky Justice's D.A.N.C.E., 50 Cent is going to have a hard time beating this.

Directed by Jonas and Francois with So-Me, this is another bullet in Kanye's magazine.

Edit 21/09/07 : as expected, Kanye's album has trounced 50 Cent's according to the website Billboard.com. Kanye West's " Graduation" has been sold 957,000 while 50 Cent's " Curiis" has reached 691,000 copies. So much for you, gangsta.

Richie Hawtin minuses his impact on the planet

It was a matter of time before DJs and label get concerned and loud about protecting the environment. After minimalizing techno music, Richie Hawtin has decided to minimalize his impact on the planet.

Ahead of the scene when it comes to music, experimentation and new technologies, Hawtin fully supports digital download as clearly written in a statement released recently in his name and his labels Minus and Plus 8.

" In response to the times we live in, and due to the ever-increasing amount of proof regarding the impact of human activity on our planet, I am pleased to announce our current environmental initiative. The aim of this strategy is to one day becomea carbon neutral company. I also hope that our efforts will both encourage and inspire other musicians, DJ’s & entertainment related companies/individuals to find their own ways to limit their impact on global climate change.

Richie Hawtin AIR TRAVEL

(...) Since January 1st of this year, in cooperation with Berlin based Atmosfair (http://www.atmosfair.de/), we have been offsetting all of my flight carbon emissions. In addition, these offsets have been recently extended to cover all air travel made by Minus employees.

Carbon Offsetting is the concept of buying carbon credits against one’s CO2 emissions to become carbon neutral. These carbon offsets are then used to contribute toward Atmosfair’s various environmentally conscious worldwide projects that adhere to the internationally accepted Gold Standard certification rules (http://www.cdmgoldstandard.org/).
I feel that carbon offsetting should be used in conjunction with other courses of action to minimise our global footprint. Therefore we are continuing to investigate alternative ways of reducing our combined CO2 output through alternative travel choices such as the use of public transport, cars, trains, bikes and combined artist bus tours such as the “Minus Min2MAX2006 USA Bus Tour”. We have also introduced other personal and internal office initiatives such as “green” sustainable electricity suppliers.

Minus MANUFACTURING IMPACT

In realistic terms we are still a music company whose revenue is generated from manufacturing items that are unfortunately harmful to the environment. Most of this damage can be attributed to the manufacturing of vinyl records and compact discs.
While we will continue to support the older paradigm of music lovers and release most major releases on vinyl and/or CD,we have meanwhile focused our attention on the packaging of these products.
All new 2007 Minus/Plus 8 vinyl & CDreleases have been packaged in either sustainable FSC (www.fscus.org) certified papers and/or a combination of recycledpapers. In addition we have also introduced a new CD packaging design that contains no plastics. We are also taking steps to introduce these types of papers into other areas of the company, and encouraging many of ourworldwide partners & promoters to also be more conscious of the available alternatives.

We will also continue to strengthen our support of digital download technologies that promote a more environmentallyfriendly music distribution system. Currently we are introducing the entire Minus catalogue on our new online store(www.m-nus.com), as well as working with our partner Beatport (www.beatport.com) to ensure viable digital alternatives topurchasing physical goods.
Listen differently, download digitally!
As there is always new research and data in the ever changing area of global climate change, we will continue to evaluateour position and the steps that we can make towards being as environmentally friendly and as neutral as possible.
Sincerely,
Richie Hawtin, President Minus Inc. / Plus 8 Records Ltd. / Minus Multimedia GmbH"

A disco thing

What is better to create a buzz than a teaser keeping the secret intact but exciting enough to make you crave?
Sony knows it and with this advertisement for their new toy ( ? ), Rolly, the blogosphere is vibrating of rumors and questions.
Is it a moving digital audio player ? A lunatic robot pet ? An extension for the Playstation 3 ? Does it open beer cans ?

To this day, Sony has only confirmed Rolly is an audio player without a display and with a single button. No release date has been set yet.
Just enjoy the ad and its soundtrack : the fantastic Scenario Rock's Skitzo Dancer remixed by Justice.
